Fifth Sunday of Lent

Jeremiah 31:31-34; Psalm 51:3-4, 12-15, Hebres 5:7-9; John 12:20-33

God who suffers
with us
the grain of wheat
that dies
we follow
this love
in our hearts
to serve
leaving behind
all we hate
of this life
injustice
lies
selfishness
greed
infidelity
and turn
with clean hearts
of mercy
goodness
compassion
willing spirits
we offer our
prayers
and supplications
cries and tears
while the law of God
is forged within
our beating hearts
made for love
made for His glory
each beat tells
us who we are
as we are drawn
into Him
new covenant
with God

What part of you must die to follow Christ?
What is the covenant with God in your heart?
How is God calling you?

Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Jeremiah 11:18-20; Psalm 7:2-3,9-12; John 7:40-53

blinded
by preconceptions
and want
of power
we become
divided
and seek
vengeance
yet the searcher
of mind
and heart
and soul
reveals
a Truth
beyond
our knowing
even as it lives
within
and around us
challenging
and shaping us
putting an end
to malice
and returning us
to Love

Have you been blinded by preconceptions?
What does the searcher of mind and heart and soul reveal to you?

Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Solemnity of St. Joseph
2Sm 7:4-16; Psalm 89: 2-5,28,29; Romans 4:13-22; Matthew 1:16-24

not through law
but by faith
we are saved
giving up our fear
and choosing
to live in God’s love
listening
to the Holy Spirit
who guides us
and brings life
each day
as we give thanks
and walk with
one another
in forgiveness
and compassion

What is God asking of you?
How do you respond?

Thursday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Exodus 32:7-14; Psalm 106: 19-23; John 5:31-47

without
a ready heart
we are blind
to the Truth
when it comes
ears closed
to the voice
who will guide us
we are lost
creating images
of no lasting value
that we worship-
until we hear a voice
crying in the wilderness
see a burning
and shining lamp
preparing the way
for the one
who will lead us home
to God’s love
waiting in our heart

Do you hear the voice in the wilderness?

Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent

1 Isaiah 49:8-15; Psalm 145: 8-9, 13-14, 17-18; John 5:17-30

music
breaks forth
from the voice
we have heard
gracious and merciful
kind and compassionate
calling us out
of darkness
and death
into the Light
of Love
seeing
our oneness
in God
and each other
all thirst
is quenched
and hunger
satisfied
doing God’s will
of love and care

Do you experience the power of God’s calling?
Love this day with all of your heart.

Monday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Isaiah 65:17-21; Psalm 30:2-6,11-13; John 4:43-54

looking forward
to the days
of long life
and the joy that comes
with the dawn
when we are saved
from our mourning
and it is turned
to dance
when we see
the Love
that lives
and works among us
clearly
and healing
comes to us
and our children

Do you see Love living and working among us?
Has it changed your mourning to dance?

Fourth Sunday of Lent

Samuel 16: 1-13; Psalm 23, 1-6; Eph 5: 8-14; John 9: 1-41

not as man sees
but God
beyond
appearance
into the heart
with the Lord
our shepherd
we shall
not want
and our eyes
shall be opened
to see
beyond
the law
beyond
the Sabbath
beyond
the ritual
to the Truth
the light
awakening us
from sleep
as we pass
from death
to life

Are you awake?
Do you see with His light?
Do you see beyond the law, the ritual and the Sabbath?

Friday of the Third Week of Lent

Hosea 13: 2-10; Psalm 81: 6-17; Mark 12: 28-34

spirit upon us
like the dewfall
we hear
love God
first
with all
your heart
and mind
and soul
let no strange God
come among you
and take
the love
of neighbor
from you
forgive
and let love
blossom
as freely
as the lilies
casting
as wide
a fragrance
as the cedars
and splendor
of the olive branch

Has a strange God come among you to take the love of your neighbor?
