Monday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time

Hebrews 9:15,24-28; Psalm 98: 1-6; Mark 3:22-30

Holy Spirit
word of life
making all things new
a song
arises
from our heart
and soul
as we experience
the gifts
of your ways
love
joy
peace
generosity

kindness
gentleness
goodness
patience
faithfulness
self-control
we live
within the power
of your being
that sets things right
no one can deny
your Presence
and live
for you are life
itself

Do you live within the power of the Holy Spirit?
How do you know?

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 8: 23-9:3; Psalm 27; 1 Cor 10-17; Mt 4:12-17

united in mind
judgment and anguish
have taken wing
streams of light
beam into
our darkness
bringing joy
to a land
of gloom
he calls us
we follow
to dwell
in the house
of the Lord
gazing on
loveliness
we are
completed
in God’s love
the yoke
of our burden
is lifted
the rod of taskmaster
smashed
making way
for the risen
Light

Do you unite yourself to the new life he brings?
Do you feel your burden lifted?

Saturday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time

Heb 9:2-3; 11-14; Psalm 97:2-9; Mark 3:20-21

living not
in the expectations
of others
He was labeled
insane
“out of His mind”
as crowds gathered
to hear His words
and accept His healing

Who among us today
is labeled
in the same way
as our minds and hearts
strain to hear some Truth
amidst the lies, deceptions
and delusions of the day

If He is “out of His mind” where did His mind go?
What voice draws you to Truth and healing?

Thursday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time

Hebrews 7:25-8:6; Psalm 40:7-17; Mark 3:7-12

law written
within my heart
I press my ear
to the sound
of its beating
feeling the pulse
of its steady rhythm
set to the pace
of God’s existence
in me
marveling at
its faithfulness
to my day to day
setting the flow
and pace
of love
in my life
enduring
and pressing back
against all
that would break it
or harden it
thankful
for this sacred chamber
and holy place
of prayer in me

What is written in your heart?

Wednesday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time

Mark 3: 1-6

we come
before you
on our Sabbath
to remember
who we are
made for goodness
and healing
with withered hand
outstretched
knowing
our need
you heal us
and we feel
the power of Life
holy splendor
falling on us
like the dew
the power
of a life
that cannot
be destroyed
one in you
without beginning
or end

Do you feel the power of God’s life and love?
Have you outstretched your hand to God?
Have you been healed?

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 49:3, 5-6; Psalm 40:2,4,7-10; 1Cor 1:1-3; John 1:29-34

God’s law
within my heart
brings delight
and a new song
into my mouth
as divine love
descends
upon all creation
a Truth
of who we are
is revealed
and shines forth
in Glory
with a Justice
that transcends
our meager offerings
but embraces
each separate thing
into One Love
that knows no bounds

Do you read God’s law written within your heart?
Does it bring delight?
What new song do you hear?

Saturday in the First Week of Ordinary Time

Hebrews 4: 12-16; Psalm 19: 8, 9, 10, 15; Mark 2: 13-17

He says
follow me
to the living
God
where truth
lives
in words
that are Spirit
and life
nothing
hidden
in weakness
need
or deceit
only love
revealed
in reflection
and thought
a law
of wisdom
that sets us free
our heart
rejoices
our soul
is refreshed
our eyes
enlightened
in the mercy
and grace
of God

Have you heard Jesus say “follow me”?
What did your heart say?
Are you healed by His presence?
