First Sunday of Advent

now is the hour
we wake
from sleep
to rejoice
and cast off
deeds of darkness
to beat our swords
into plowshares
and pruning hooks
for we
shall go
to the house
of the Lord
where peace
shall be with us
quarreling
lusting
and jealousy
leave us
as we put on
the light
of Christ
and become
radiant
with love

Are you ready for peace and light and love?
Are you willing to shed your weapons?
Are you awake and watchful for the Lord?

Saturday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Daniel 7:15-27; Daniel 3:82-87; Luke 21:34-36

the dreams
and visions of terror
in the night
give way
to blessing
and hope
as the one
who comes to save
appears
in our hearts
and mind
giving warning
to not become
drowsy
from anxieties
distractions
or drunkenness
but be vigilant
at all times
in prayer
that you not be
overcome
by tribulations
but always aware
of what God offers
in love
secure in Christ’s peace
and His will for your good

Has your heart been overcome by anxiety and distraction from goodness?
Where do you turn for peace of mind and heart?

Friday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Daniel 7:2-14; Daniel 3:75-81; Luke 21:29

terrors come
and terrors go
countries come
and countries go
yet God
coming in Glory
and Love
shall not pass away
Spirit of the living God
blessed by
mountains and hills
the growing earth
and springs
the seas and river
dolphins and water creatures
birds of the air
beasts wild and tame
shall renew us
as buds burst open
in early spring
in ways beyond our imagining
we live
in this peace
and hope

Do you live in the peace and hope of Christ?

A Prayer 

Philippians 4:6-9

Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation,
by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
And the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts
and your minds in Christ Jesus
Finally, brothers and sisters,
whatever is true,
whatever is noble,
whatever is right,
whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable—
if anything is excellent
or praiseworthy—
think about such things…
and give thanks.

Solemnity of Christ the King

bone of our bone
flesh of our flesh
the One who is
firstborn of all creation
moves within us—
making us new

in Him

things visible
and invisible
the thrones we fear
the dominations that crush
the principalities and powers
that haunt our world
are gathered in His arms
and reconciled

we enter the house
of the Lord
not with fear
but rejoicing—
for violence is not our story
mocking is not our truth
death is not our destiny

we are remembered
by the Crucified
whose blood carries peace
like a river through the world
through our wounds
through our days
through everything that aches
to be made whole

in this remembering
we rise
we receive
we enter paradise
even now
with Him
who holds all things together

Can you see peace flow through the cross?
Can you see your being through Him?
Can you see with His light?
