Thursday after Ash Wednesday

Dt 30:15-20; Psalm 1:1-6; Luke 9:22-25

today
is set before us
life and death
we choose life
in Him
who even though He endured
many sufferings
rose to new life
in the Spirit of God-
law of the Lord
written
in our hearts
we stand
like a tree
planted near
running water
meditating on
God’s love
day and night
with love’s fruit
yielding
in due season

with leaves
that will never fade

What do you choose?

Ash Wednesday

Joel 2:12-18; Psalm 51:3-6;12-17; 2Cor 5:20-21; Mt 6:1-18

with our
whole heart
we return
to God
made from
love
for love
we have
no other reason
to live
but to give
what has been
given us
not for gain
or show
or profit
but to be
who we are
in God

loved

Have you returned to God with your whole heart?
What has God called you to be?

Monday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Sir 17:20-24; Psalm 32:1-7; Mark 10:17-27

rejoicing in
the freedom that comes
as we let go
of error
and fault
and enter into
the Truth
of God’s presence
within our breath
within our thoughts
loving us
into existence
we are full
of thanks
and praise
leave all
the unnecessary
to follow
His path
to Goodness
where all things
are possible
in God

Have you entered the freedom of God’s presence?
What do you find there?

Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sirach 27:4-7; Psalm 92:2-16; 1Cor 15:54-58; Luke 6:39-45

thirsting
for a word
what do we hear
at the break of dawn
a word
of judgement
blinded
by ignorance
of who we are
or love
incorruptible
given freely
in a mercy
of grace?

Of what do we speak
do we bring life
or death
through our words
that come
from the fullness
of our hearts
bearing the fruit
of who we have become?

Of what do we do
with what we have been given
so freely?
What devotion
brings us home?

Who are you now?

Saturday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Sirach 17:1-15; Psalm 103:13-19; Mark 10:13-16

with wisdom
ever conscious
of the presence
of God
Jesus embraces
the children
as we are embraced
created
in image
for one glorious
brief moment
of beholding
we are asked
to live
in loving kindness
and compassion
caretakers
of justice-
God’s love for all

Do you come to God with the wonder and awe of a child?
What challenges your commitment to loving kindness?

Thursday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Sirach 5:1-8; Psalm 1:1-6; Mark 9:41-50

receiving
God’s word
we are called
to delight
in His way
meditating
day and night
on the love
and grace
that surrounds us
relying not
on wealth
nor overconfident
of forgiveness
having added sin
upon sin
we do not delay
in our conversion
and cut off
any path of deception
placing
all our hope
and trust
in God

Do you delight in God’s word?
How do you resist the chaos of these times?
Where do you place your trust?

Tuesday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Sirach 2:1-11; Psalm 37:3-40; Mark 9:30-37

come
as a child
with wonder
and awe
and trust
the God
who guides
our minds
and hearts
who is with us
at all times
even in the harshest adversity
keep a sincere
and steadfast heart
listening always
for God’s word
of Life
and be enlightened
in grace
mercy
and love

Do you come to God with wonder and awe?
Do you listen always for God’s word in your life?
Have you committed your life to the Lord?
