Wednesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

1Kings 10:1-10; Psalm 37: 5-6,30-31, 39-40; Mark 7:14-33

the mouth
of the just
speaks wisdom
bringing light
and peace
to your heart
offering refuge
in time of distress
providing goodness
to the world
through the strength
of the Holy Spirit
counter to a culture
of weapons and war
He offers peace
love and mercy
and kindness
to All

Who do you trust?
In what do you put your faith?

Tuesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

1Kings 8:22-30; Psalm 84:3-11; Mark 7:1-13

gathering together
in faith
we offer our prayers
and petitions
with all of our heart
as our souls
cry out
to the living God
who lives beyond
our traditions
and rituals
in the very being
of love
we pray
that our lives
might live out
the commands of love
and mercy
in a desperate world

How do you live out the commands of love and mercy?

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Job 7.1-4,6,7; Psalm 147: 1-6; 1 Cor 9.16-19,22,23; Mark 1.29-39

Job
you speak of
our drudgery
our slavery
our misery
troubled nights
restless til dawn
we wake in hopelessness
and despair
our life
like the wind
come and gone
our happiness
with it

for this
our poverty
we wonder
who will
answer our cries?

into this void
this dark night
we call

we pause

for soul speaks
from the dark
a song of praise
arises
in the void before
creation
our God
answers

we praise
as goodness comes
we praise
His graciousness
we praise
His gathering
His rebuiding
we praise
Him healer of broken hearts
wound binder
we praise
caller of stars by name
He fills our
empty space
we praise

we come before Jesus
our broken hearts
demons and illness
in hand
the truth of God’s love
heals us
alive within us
we move with Him
to the lonely places
in deep silence
our Jesus heart
restored

word upon our lips
compelled
we must speak
of such great love
a charge given
in spirit
imageless love
flows
to the present need
all things to all
we rise from the dead
to serve
what has loved us
to life

Of what are you compelled to speak?

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Deut 18:15-20; Psalm 95: 1-2, 6-7, 7-9; 1 Cor 7.32-35; Mark 1.21-28

word of God
we pray for you to
be upon our lips
for we want nothing
but to serve
your love
and goodness
break our hearts
of stone
to sing joyfully
to praise
to worship
to follow
your ways of love
and goodness
Jesus
speak through
our hearts and life
and let any darkness
be extinguished
by your radiant light

Do you let love and goodness break into your heart?

Saturday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time

2Samuel 12:1-7a, 10-17; Psalm 51:12-17; Mark 4:35-41

we see
who we are
through wisdom’s mirror
in need
of a renewed spirit
we pray
for a willing spirit
to sustain us
and bring back
our joy

caught
in the storm
we are tossed
and turned
by our fears
and anxiety
crying out
we hear
“Be still”
and all that seemed
beyond us
that is beyond us
is calmed

facing all
with God
we learn
mercy
and grace

What has taught you mercy and grace?
