Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Wisdom 9:13-18; Psalm 90: 3-6; 12-17′ Phil 9-10, 12-17; Luke 14: 25-33

struck by
God’s wisdom
and love
we are

no longer possessed
by our possessions
that mean
nothing
without God’s Truth
and love-
arising
at dawn
anew
daybreak fills us
with His kindness
our burdens
are lifted
we shout
for joy
and gladness
all the days of our life

Is your mind weighed down with earthly concerns?
Are you possessed by your possessions?
What brings you freedom?

Friday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time

1Cor 4:1-5; Psalm 37:3-40; Luke 5:33-39

trusting
in God
doing good
we take delight
in God’s way
we become
a new creation
as His light
dawns in our heart
even as we see
hate
and unforgiveness
in our hearts
we turn our eyes
toward the One
who offers
refuge
strength
courage
and salvation

Where do you turn in times of struggle and stress?
Where do you place your trust?
Do you become a new creation?

Thursday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Luke 5:1-11

seeking mercy
we cast our nets
into deep waters
hoping to see
God’s goodness
and love
ready to leave
everything
to follow
and be strengthened
with patience
endurance
and joy
longing to share
the good news
of God’s will
God’s love of all
and be delivered
from the darkness

that surrounds us
no longer
afraid

Have you cast your net into the deep waters?
Are you ready to leave everything to follow?

Monday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Memorial of John the Baptist
Mark 6:17-19

in fear
of another’s thoughts
and opinion
we do
what we do not wish
disregarding
the voice
of Wisdom
within
that asks for pause
and contemplation
of our greatest gift
of undying love
capable
of reaching
beyond enmity
creating a peace
that only heaven
knows

Where do you find wisdom?
Do you pause to hear Wisdom’s voice?
Do you trust what you hear?
Do you dare to love your enemy?

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sirach 3:17- 20, 28-29; Ps 68: 4-11; Hebrews 12: 18-24; Luke 14: 1,7-14

exalting
ourselves
we reach
beyond
our need
striving for
favored seats
and reward
we forsake
God’s justice
and love
seeking
into things
beyond
our strength-
humble
we are showered
with beautiful rains
and make a home
in God’s
goodness
city of the living God
we leave our fear
and trembling
gloomy darkness
and storm
and open
to Jesus’
saving power
saving love

Where do you make your home?
Do we invite those who can not repay you?

Friday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time

1Cor 1:17-25; Psalm 33:1-5,10-11; Matthew 25:1-13

what wisdom
in this cross
this crucified one
this Son of God
accepting
a death
in a silence
beyond
our ways
of knowing
appearing foolish
as we seek
the world’s power
and escape
yet
standing ready
at the door
in faith
His love
appears again
as our hearts
are opened
to the Holy Spirit
and flooded
with the light
of God’s love
eternal

Is the door of your heart opened to God’s light and love?
