Third Sunday of Lent

Exodus 1: 3-7; Ps 95: 1-9; 2Romans 5: 1-8; John 4: 5-42

with no need
of worthiness
the water
and grace
of life
flow upon
the wanderers
with open
heart
ready to receive
the woman
hears
her Truth
and
a heart of stone
melts
into a heart
of love
singing
joyfully
knowing
that salvation
has come
to the weary ones
to the outcasts
all are loved
in this Spirit
and Truth

Do you tell God all of your needs?
Do you hear and respond to truth spoken into your heart?

Friday of the Second Week of Lent

Genesis 37:3-4,12-12, 17-28; Psalm 105:16-21; Matthew 21:33-46

rejecting
who God has sent
our course
of destruction
is set
as we think
we know
what is best
in our envy
and jealousy
and greed
yet what is rejected
becomes
the cornerstone
of new life
opposing forces
create
a new way
a new path
for eyes
and hearts
and minds
that are open to God’s love
and set free

What is the path to freedom?
How does the Holy Spirit deal with rejection and betrayal?
How does God work everything for good?

Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent

Jeremiah 18:18-20; Psalm 31:5-6,14-16; Matthew 20:17-28

leaving behind
our desire
for honor
and place
we enter
a mercy
and justice
that offers
refuge for our soul
we trust
in God’s province
of Light
that brings love
life and truth
to darkness
deceit and death
then breathe
a purity
that grounds
our Being

in God’s love and light

Have you found a refuge for your soul in God’s love and light?

Monday of the Second Week of Lent

Dn 9:4b-10; Psalm 74:8-13; Luke 6:36-38

the measure
of our giving
returns
to us
overflowing
from a God
of abundance
giving all
even as we
see all
of our own transgressions
and sinfulness
we give them
as well
to a mercy
and kindness
that forgives
returning to us
an unfathomable
love

Do you give yourself completely to God’s love?
How do you follow the command not to judge?
What is your measure?

Second Sunday in Lent

Genesis 12: 1-4; Psalm 33: 4-5,18-19,20-22; Tim 1: 8-10; Mt 17: 1-9

God calls
into our hearts
we follow
even into
deserts
even into
the unknown
for we hold
God’s vision
within us
preserving us
in spite
of famine
and we are
transfigured
with him
and in him
dazzling
as the sun
radiant
as light
unafraid
for God’s love
is all
we need
we live

in God’s Spirit
and Truth

Do you hear him when God calls into your heart?
Do you follow?
Do you live by God’s light and love?

Friday of the First Week of Lent

Ez 18: 21-28; Psalm 130: 1-8; Matthew 5: 20-26

you call us
to a greater good
greater than we can imagine
leaving our fuel
of anger
for one of compassion
and virtue-
our choice each day
for life or death-
we live
in the consequences
of grace
we enter
the impossible-
forgiven
and forgiving
where we are saved

How do you leave your anger?
How do you forgive?
Do you live in the consequence of His grace?
